Scene on the outskirts of Peronne
Image by National Library of Scotland
A soldier walks across a makeshift bridge, possibly over the River Somme. The town of Peronne is clearly visible in the background. The devastation to buildings and the surrounding landscape is apparent. Due to its position close to the River Somme, Peronne suffered greatly during the Somme Offensive of 1916.
